Now Lynching : Is the humanity dormant or extinct in the vale ?

The importance of Shab-e- Qadr is great since it is believed Holy Quran was sent down in this night. The Muslims who find Shab-e- Qadr should stay up and pray whole night out of faith and hoping for reward from Allah. As to the importance of Laylatul Qadr (the night of Decree), it is better than a thousand months. Allah almighty says in the Holy Quran:

verily! We have sent it (Quran) down in the Night of Decree (Lailatul-Qadr). And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh (i.e. Gabriel) by Allaah’s Permission with all Decrees, Peace! until the appearance of dawn.” (Al-Qadr 97: 1-5)

Such is the relevance of the night but whence we retrospect the events happening or have happened during these nights and executed by the so called mujahids of Kashmir who claim to be warriors of faith and also guided by Holy Quran to fight for the cause of Islam in the valley as claimed by Syed Salahudin the Supreme Commander of Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen In an exclusive interview granted to Kolkata daily The Telegraph, Salahuddin claimed “The Kashmiri movement was Islamised from day one. Why do you think an educated young man, who has a bright future otherwise, is willing to die? Azaadi is not his objective. He is into militancy because he knows that if he dies for a noble cause, he would become a martyr, as per Islam. We tell him that he would get into the ‘real life’ after this death and he would get peace.”This pious night has witnessed some gruesomest killings which in no case can be termed human acts, maybe even Satan would detest.

Ironically each such event begins with the words Bismillah-e –Rehman-e raheem…’ In the name of Allah, the most merciful and the most Compassionate’

Shab E Qadar ;1998 [ 23 Kashmiri Hindus Killed ], to coincide with time of Shab E Qadar , Hamid Gadda of HizbulMujahideen descended on a small village Wandhama in Gandebal district. When the whole valley way praying for peace , Hamid & other terrorists lined up the minority Kashmiri Hindus and killed 23 of them which included 10 men , 9 women & 4 children .

Shab E Qadar; 2017 [ DSP MdAyub Pandit lynched to death ] ,  A very religious man ,DSP Ayub Pandith who used to pray five times a day , was at his downtown Nawpora home as he received direction to proceed on duty to Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta to check if all security measures are in places as large number of people were expected to assemble at the mosque to pray during the night of Shab. After completing his Ramzan fasting he did his iftar and promised his daughter , who had just come back from Bangladesh a day earlier , where she is studying MBBS that he would be back soon after checking all arrangements.

As some youth came out of the mosque shouting “ MoosaMoosa – Zakir Moosa” slogans , DSP just reached near the group to check out what was going on . Someone in the mob had an altercation with the DSP and a scuffle broke out. Meanwhile someone got hold of his ID which had MA Pandit written on it.  Suspecting that the DSP was an intelligence officer belonging to Kashmiri Pandit community, the mob lynched him to death and dragged his body 300 mts away.

All this while it is believed that Mirwaiz , was holding sermons inside the mosque , same Mirwaiz that this DSP had come to protect and instead got lynched. In stark contrast to Mohammed Mahmoud, the Finsbury mosque’s imam in london (couple of weeks back), later hailed as the hero of the day. He protected the attacker , who killed a muslim outside the mosque and wounded many others with a large van plus was shouting anti muslim slogans, from a very angry and violent mob.

In last 27 years, Kashmir has undergone huge transformation, where youth are getting more radicalised and attracted towards radicalism. The lynching of Pandith , follows the pattern Islamists have been following from Pakistan to Syria.

Most of the separatist leaders have been subdued in their condemnation of this dastardly act, while Mirwaiz write a 2-line condemnation in his six-para letter which mostly criticised Indian state, other’s chose not to give any statement lest the radicalised youth get upset.

Mainstream politician, who have as well largely been noticed as remaining distanced whenever a police official has been killed, have this time expressed their angst at the horrible act. The condemnation came across from all parties. PDP MLA Javed Beig while condemning the act condemned the separatists and said that these separatists have ‘approved’ every such killing which has been done at the behest of Pakistan , and the so called “Tehreek” is nothing but ‘goondaism’ unleashed by some religious zealouts.

While as there has been an increase in demand to impose governors rule in the state , centre seems to be unmoved and has given full authority to the present CM Mehbooba Mufti to deal with the situation.  Strong warnings have been issued by the CM and police chief to the separatists & their supporters.

Meanwhile support for radical Islamist , Zakir Moosa is increasing among separatist camp , which has to large extent marginalised the support base of Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani&Mirwaiz Farooq. Zakir Moosa , also called Bhagdadi Of Kashmir , has warned Hurriyat leaders to not talk about secular Kashmir , least he would behead them at Lal Chowk.

What needs to be seen is how police force & army would respond to the new strategy of terrorists aimed to killing of police & other security forces.  It is estimated that there are around 300 armed terrorists currently in the valley and most of them based out of south Kashmir.

Though sanity appears to have left the valley with the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits but being part of the society and heritage which has a history of more than 5000 years would like to share with my younger generation an observation of a Mystic….” Obedience, particularly to elders, is often projected as a traditional value. I would say unquestioned obedience is the downfall of a society and culture. Obedience means there is an authority. It may be a parent, a priest, God, or a scripture. Obedience is based on the assumption that whatever the authority says is right. If you make authority the truth, it destroys human intelligence. Truth should be the only authority. The next generation should do something that we could not imagine possible. We produce a next generation because we think it is a new possibility. If it is not a new possibility but only takes instructions from us on all levels and only does what we want, it is no good as a new generation. There is nothing “next” about it. It is just a graveyard of the past popping up in the future, which is a waste of life.”

And let us also contemplate within ourselves what Holy Quran teaches us about killing of the innocents….

“…if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.”

Such is the value of a single human life, that the Quran equates the taking of even one human life unjustly, with killing all of humanity. Thus, the Quran prohibits homicide in clear terms. The taking of a criminal’s life by the state in order to administer justice is required to uphold the rule of law, and the peace and security of the society. Only a proper and competent court can decide whether an individual has forfeited his right to life by disregarding the right to life and peace of other human beings.

Islam enjoins upon all Muslims to work actively to maintain the balance in which God created everything. Terrorizing the civilian population can never be termed as jihad and can never be reconciled with the teachings of Islam.

As Nobel awardee has said  “ Terrorism must be outlawed by all civilized nations — not explained or rationalized, but fought and eradicated. Nothing can, nothing will justify the murder of innocent people and helpless children.”

Dear Pawan ji,not easy for us to write an article about Kashmir with calm, poise & cool.We do tend to get swayed for we are human but you have been dispassionate in putting facts on the table.Loved the last part “obedience only to truth”? As Swami Vivekanand famously told his disciples that the Golden rule is that there are no Golden rules.
I for one want Mehbooba ji to continue & she will not withstanding the clamour against her.Can discuss over phone, may be?If you read the thread of my tweets, something is happening in Kmr.No judgements only interpretations & I am not ‘kite flying’.
    Congrats for the effort !! Keep it up.God bless.——–Rajinder Raina (@rraina1481) 9810299587.

  2. The arguments forwarded are a mirror on the wall unfortunately, clouded by the obstinacy of perverted mindsets. Kashmir now is beyond what it sought to do and achieve.. That the author needs to invoke religious scriptures to remind the faithful of their misdemeanors is in itself a testimony to the growing radicalization of society in Kashmir.
    Must say brilliantly articulated piece.
