JAMMU, JULY 25: The three-week interdisciplinary summer school in social sciences concluded here at University of Jammu.
The interdisciplinary summer school was organized by the department of Political Science, Jammu University. The course was attended by a total of 32 faculty members from various colleges and universities across India, including Jammu.
Speaker, Legislative Assembly Prof. Nirmal Singh attended the valedictory function here as the Chief Guest, while as the former Vice-Chancellor JU Prof. R. D. Sharma was the Guest of Honour and Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu Prof. Manoj Dhar presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nirmal Singh highlighted the greatness of Indian civilisation. He said that one of the principle aims of these courses by the ASC was to galvanize, energize, and enthuse the teaching community to ponder over the issues relating to the higher education and explore the possibility of bringing alive the ancient wisdom.
A total of 42 renowned and reputed resource persons drawn from various Universities, deliberated upon various topics related to the theme of the refresher course. A host of topics ranging from E leaning to technology , Global, national and local imperative for higher education to role of teachers, Higher education in the changing world; History and historiography of Jammu and Kashmir; religious configuration, power and knowledge , myth and reality in media reporting etc, few thoughts about achieving excellence in higher education and research; Nature and operation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India; Need for academic leadership in higher education; E-Learning; Role of data mining in achieving transparency in higher education; Literature and purpose of human life were debated.
