Opposition parties hold meeting to decide candidate for election of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha

The opposition parties today held a meeting at Parliament House to decide the name of the candidate for the election of the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

The meeting was attended by NCP chief Sharad Pawar, CPI leader D Raja, Misa Bharti of RJD and others. The leaders will again meet in the evening and the name of the opposition candidate is expected to be announced at that time.

Sources said the opposition parties are also in touch with BJD and TRS for their support.

The election for the post will be held on Thursday and the members can give notices of motions regarding the name of the candidates up to noon tomorrow.

From the ruling NDA side, JD(U) MP Harivansh will be the candidate for the post. The post of Deputy Chairman has been lying vacant since the retirement of Prof. P J Kurien last month.
