LEH, AUGUST 08: State Information Commissioner (SIC), Mohammad Ashraf Mir, today inaugurated an awareness programme on implementation of J&K RTI Act, 2009 at Conference Hall here.
He was accompanied by Secretary State Information Commission, A. K. Pandita and Deputy Secretary SIC, Vishwa Jeet. Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa, ADC Moses Kunzang, and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the SIC said that RTI is an important tool in the hands of the public and emphasised on creating awareness about RTI Act among the people and need for government to impart training on RTI to officials.
He said that RTI is a statutory mechanism to give information that is existing and available in the manner and form in which it is held with the public authority. He urged the officers to put in their best to respond to an RTI filed within 30 days and informed that SIC can scrutinize the authority of the information provided by the government departments.
Other speakers also threw light on J&K RTI Act, 2009 and its implementation in the state.
