Secretary Social Welfare reviews progress of ICDS
Calls for ensuring availability of supplementary nutrition in Anganwadi Centres
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 10: Secretary Social Welfare, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Friday asked Mission Director, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) to ensure that supplementary nutrition is made available from 15th August onwards in all Anganwadi centres.
This was stated by Secretary Social Welfare, during a meeting convened to review the functioning of ICDS Scheme in the state.
Dr Lone stressed on the need for an integrated approach for the effective implementation of various welfare schemes initiated by the government.
During the meeting, it was decided that selection of all Anganwadi workers and Helpers already advertised will be completed within a month. Advertisement for remaining Anganwadi positions will be issued within fortnight and selections will be made strictly on the bases of merit as per the criteria provided in government policy on the subject.
Dr lone stressed that GOI India has asked states to fill vacancies at all the levels in the ICDS scheme as it is fellowship programme of the country.
Accordingly, he directed MD, ICDS to conduct Departmental Promotion Committee meeting at the earliest so that positions of supervisors (promotion Quota) are filled within on month.
Mission Director was also direct to ensure that Aadhar enrolment canters become functional at all the 141 block project officers of ICDS within fortnight.
Dr Lone said that under the scheme ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ National Nutrition Week will be celebrated from 1st September to 7th September across the State.
He said that basic objective of this event is to intensify awareness generation on the importance of nutrition for health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.
The meeting was told that under the convergence programme with Health Department health checkups, de-worming camps and other medical investigations for the kids are being arranged at these Centers.
The meeting was attended by State Mission Director ICDS, , Special Secretary Social Welfare, Executive Director state Rehabilitation Council, Additional Secretary Social Welfare, Director Finance Social Welfare and other concerned officers.
