Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Dalit leaders of the Lok Janshakti Party today congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the passage of The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill in Parliament.
Mr Paswan said NDA government has proved that it has the interests of the backward sections of society in mind and is working for their upliftment.
He was addressing a gathering of Dalit workers of LJP in Delhi. The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill was passed in the Monsoon session of Parliament that concluded yesterday.
It rules out any provision for any anticipatory bail for a person accused of atrocities against SC/STs.
It provides that no preliminary inquiry will be required for registering a criminal case and an arrest under this law would not be subject to any approval.
