Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that the research of National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad would contribute towards increase the income of farmers. He was talking to reports after inaugurating the new campus of the Institute yesterday.
He appreciated NIAB’s outreach programme for farmers — MILAN (Meeting of Indian Livestock Farmers and Agriculturists with NIAB scientists). He said he has asked the scientists to now focus on research which is people-centric, farmer-centric to ensure doubling of income of farmers by 2022.
NIAB officials said, the institute aims to harness novel and emerging biotechnologies and it has taken up research in the cutting-edge areas for improving animal health and productivity.
