Amidst chanting of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata ki Jai, the Acting Consul General of India in Dubai Mrs Sumathi Vasudev led the Indian expats in celebrating the 72nd Independence Day in Dubai by unfurling the national flag at the Consulate.
Hundreds of Indian expats from different walks of life gathered in the back lawns of the Indian Consulate to mark the occasion. The children dressed in colourful attire waved the tricolour.
Acting Consul General Mrs Sumathi Vasudev read out excerpts of the speech given by the President of India on the eve of the Indian Independence Day to the Indian Community.
The Indian flag was also hoisted by the Indian Community in other Emirates.
In Abu Dhabi, the national flag was unfurled by Ambassador Navdeep Suri. Hundreds of Indian expats based in Abu Dhabi had gathered in the Embassy for the occasion.
Similar celebrations were held in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In Doha, it was Ambassador P Kumaran who hoisted the national flag while in Riyadh Ambassador Ahmed Javed unfurled the tri colour.
At the Consulate in Jeddah, Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh led the Indian expat community in celebrating the Independence Day.
