Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said his country will boycott US electronic products in retaliation for punitive sanctions from Washington. He said in Ankara yesterday that his country have its own homegrown electronics goods.
Erdogan said his country is taking measures to stabilise the economy. The US doubled tariffs last week over Turkey’s refusal to extradite a US pastor who is imprisoned in Turkey.
Turkey’s currency, the lira turned into a rout on Friday when US President Donald Trump tweeted that Washington was doubling aluminium and steel tariffs for Turkey.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is visiting Ankara, branded the US sanctions as an illegitimate policy. At a news conference, he accused the US of seeking an unfair competitive advantage in global trade.
