India scored 307 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of the first day of the third Test against England at Trent Bridge. All-rounder Hardik Pandya got dismissed at 18 runs on the final ball of the day while debutant Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten at stumps. A brilliant 159-run fourth wicket stand between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane pulled India out of trouble. Virat Kohli played a magnificent 97-run knock, whereas Ajinkya Rahane scored 81 runs. Earlier winning the toss, England skipper Joe Root invited India to bat first.
The new opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul provided India with a solid 60-run opening partnership but Chris Woakes cleaned up the top order just before lunch. Shikhar Dhawan made 35 and K.L.Rahul 23 runs.
For England, Chris Woakes clinched three wickets while James Anderson, Adil Rashid and Ben Stokes managed a wicket each. The home team is leading the five-match series 2-0.
