Asian games: India claims two silver medals on day 2 in Shooting

India today claimed two silver medals in the Shooting at the 18th Asian Games being held in Indonesia. In the Men’s Trap, Lakshay aimed at silver medal with an impressive 43 from 50 shots. Chinese Taipei won gold after hitting 48 out of 50.
Earlier in the day, Shooter Deepak Kumar bagged a Silver medal. This was India’s third medal in Shooting. Deepak claimed the Silver in the Men’s 10-metre Air Rifle event with a score of 247.7 points. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Deepak Kumar for his achievement.

Mr Modi said, Deepak Kumar’s tenacity and dedication towards shooting have brought wonderful results. China took home the Gold, while Chinese Taipei won the Bronze. The other Indian in the event, Ravi Kumar ended at the fourth spot.

In women’s 10-metre Air Rifle event, Apurvi Chandela has been eliminated in the final round after a shot of 9.8 as she finished fifth. China won the gold, Korea settled for silver while Mongolia won Bronze in the event. Ravi and Apurvi had clinched a Bronze medal in the Mixed Team category yesterday.

In Women’s Trap, Seema Tomar has been eliminated as she finished sixth with just 12 out of 25 shots. China claimed Gold, Korea bagged Silver while Lebanon took Bronze in this category.

In Women’s Wrestling, India today assured of a medal as Vinesh Phogat advanced to the final after defeating Uzbekistan’s Yakhshimuratova Dauletbike 10-0 on technical superiority. Phogat will now face Japan’s Yuki Irie in the gold medal match in freestyle 50 kg category.
Earlier, two women wrestlers, Rio Olympics Bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and Pooja Dhanda lost their semi-final matches. Pooja will now face Japan’s Sagakami Katsuki in the bronze medal match in 57 kg category.  In 62 kg category, Sakshi will take on Korea’s Rim Jong Sim in the bronze medal match in 62kg division.

Meanwhile, In 53-kilo category, Pinki lost to Mongolia’s Sumiya Erdenechimeg 10-0 in the pre-quarterfinal round. In men’s Freestyle 125 kilogram category, Sumit Malik also lost to Parviz Hadibasmanj of Iran 10-NIL. Bajrang Punia had given India its first Gold of the Games yesterday in the 65 kg division.

In Badminton, the Men’s team, led by Kidambi Srikanth lost to Indonesia in the quarter-finals. Indonesia wins the match 21-14, 21-18.  Earlier in the day, the Indian Women’s team, spearheaded by PV Sindhu, lost to Japan in the quarterfinals 3-1.
In Men’s Handball Main Round matches, India beat Malaysia 45-19. In women’s Basketball, Chinese Taipei secured a spot in the next stage beating India 84-61 in a Group X qualifying game.

In Tennis, Ankita Raina advanced to the next round in women’s singles. Karman Kaur will play her singles’ match later today. In Men’s category, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prabhakharan Rajesh will also play their matches later.

The Indian Men’s Hockey team will begin its campaign with their opening Group-A match against Indonesia in the evening. The Indian Women’s team had thrashed Indonesia, 8-0 in the opener.
