Fresh batch of 218 yatris leave from Baltal route, no pilgrimage from Pahalgam

Srinagar, Aug 20: A fresh batch of 218 pilgrims, including sadhus, left Baltal base camp for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far over 2, 82, 500 pilgrims paid obeisance since the commencement of the 60-day-long pilgrimage from June 28.

However, there was no yatri from Pahalgam, where Chhari Mubarak, holy Mace of Lord Shiva will arrive in the evening from Srinagar.

Forty three pilgrims left Bhagwati Najar, Jammu for Kashmir valley this morning.

On the 53rd day of the yatra on Sunday, 802 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave. Since early this morning about 160 yatris paid obeisance at the cave shrine. Till date over 2,82,500 pilgrims had darshan of the shivlingam from both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal tracks.

A fresh batch of 218 pilgrims left Baltal base camp for the holy cave as the weather remained pleasant. The yatris are scheduled to reach the shrine this afternoon after completing the 14-km-long hilly track on foot.

“All the pilgrims who were scheduled to undertake the yatra were sent through Baltal track. No yatri undertook pilgrimage from Nunwan Pahalgam base camp,” official sources said.

Pilgrims who had ‘darshan’ yesterday have started their return journey towards the base camp.

Mahant Deependra Giri carrying the holy Mace left Dashnami Akhara temple near here this morning for the cave shrine.
