Multiple quakes rock Indonesia’s Lombok island

In Indonesia, multiple earthquakes, including a powerful 6.9-magnitude tremor, struck Lombok, killing at least 10 people and sending fresh panic coursing through the already battered island.  The spokesman at the national disaster mitigation agency, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho today said more than 100 aftershocks had been recorded since Sunday night’s quake.
He said relief and reconstruction efforts had been intensified. According to Lombok officials, aftershocks ranging between magnitude 4 and 5 were continued today and access to some areas had been cut off by landslides triggered by the tremors.  There are reports of localised damage at some places.
The island is already reeling from two devastating quakes that hit on the 29th of last month and the 5th of this month, killing nearly 500 people and made hundreds of thousands homeless.
