Asian Games: Shooter Saurabh Chaudhary wins gold, Abhishek Verma claims Bronze

Indian shooters today bagged one gold and one bronze medal in the Men’s 10-metre Air Pistol event at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.

16-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary won gold while Abhishek Verma claimed Bronze. Saurabh claimed the Asian Games Record as well with 240.7 points to finish above Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsuda.

In the Men’s 50-metres Rifle 3 Positions event, Sanjeev Rajput has qualified for the finals. Shreyasi Singh and Lakshay are featuring in the Mixed Team Trap category.

Shooters have won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze of the 7 medals India has won so far.

Apart from shooting, two Golds have come in Wrestling, first was won by Bajrang Punia and the other was bagged by Vinesh Phogat yesterday.

India is currently seventh in the medals tally. China continues to be at the top, with Japan second and South Korea third.

Four Indian grapplers will be seen in action today. Divya Kakran and Kiran in Freestyle and Gyanender and Manish in Greco Roman category will vie for glory in their respective categories.

Archery events have also begun. Deepika Kumari, Promila Daimary, Ankita Bhakat and Laxmirani Manjhi are figuring in the Women’s Recurve event, with Atanu Das, Sukhchain Singh, Jagdish Choudhary and Viswash set to feature in the Men’s section later in the day.

In Swimming, India’s Virdhawal Khade has qualified for the Finals of Men’s 50 metres Freestyle category.

Rower Dattu Bhokanal entered the Final of Men’s Single Sculls event, while Sanjukta Dung and Harpreet Kaur qualified for the Women’s Pair Rowing Finals.

In Women’s Hockey, India will take on Kazakhstan in their second Group-B match. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the match from 6:25 PM.
