New Delhi, Aug 22: BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday expressed anguish over the killing of abducted party worker Shabir Ahmad Bhat by terrorists in Pulwama region of Jammu and Kashmir but asserted the ‘cycle of violence’ will not last long.
“Anguished to learn about the killing of BJP karyakarta, Shabir Ahmad Bhat by terrorists in Pulwama (J&K). This act of cowardice is highly condemnable. Extremists cannot stop the youth of Kashmir from choosing a better future for themselves,” BJP chief tweeted.
BJP constituency president Shabir Ahmad Bhat’s body was recovered on Wednesday morning.
The 26-year-old Bhat was abducted by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening while he was on his way to his home in Pulwama.
Police said investigating was on to find the circumstances of the killing of the young BJP leader.
Altaf Thakur, BJP state spokesman, condemned the killing and said Bhat had gone to his home to celebrate Eid with his family but was abducted by militants and subsequently killed.
Amid Eid celebration in Jammu and Kashmir, heavy clashes took place in Anantnag district, forcing the security forces to resort to teargas shelling.
Sources said that the violence erupted when stone pelters started attacking security forces.
