Rakshabandhan celebrated across the country with enthusiasm & gaiety

Rakshabandhan, the festival of brothers and sisters was celebrated today across the country with enthusiasm and gaiety. On this day, the sisters tie a colorful rakhi, around the wrist of their brothers and pray for their prosperity, health and well-being. In return, brothers pledge to protect and support them and present them a gift. The festival spreads harmony and celebrates brotherhood and symbolises the inseparable bond of love between brothers and sisters. Delhi Transport Corporation provided free travel to women passengers and Delhi Metro run extra trips to facilitate the public during the festival.

President, Vice President and Prime Minister have greeted the people on the occasion. In his message, President Ram Nath Kovind said,Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the unique relationship between brothers and sisters. He hoped that the spirit of this festival will strengthen fraternal feelings and inspire people to live in a society defined by universal respect for the security and dignity of women, especially of girl children.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, the festival upholds the high place traditionally accorded to women in the society. A group of girls tied Rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
