Article 35 A: Fresh petition to come up for hearing today at SC for admission

Srinagar, Aug 27: The Supreme Court will on Monday hear a fresh petition challenging the Article 35-A of the Constitution. However, a bunch of petitions challenging the legislation are likely to come up for hearing on August 31.

“It is a fresh petition coming up for hearing for admission. The bunch of petitions challenging Article 35A is likely to be listed for hearing on August 31,” Shoeb Alam, Jammu and Kashmir government counsel in the Supreme Court told media.

Sources said that the top court is likely to include the petition in the bunch that would come up for hearing on August 31.

Reports said the fresh petition has been filed by Ashwani Upadhyay seeking scrapping of Article 35-A, which bars outsiders from buying immovable property in the state.

Separatists have called for shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on August 30 and 31 to protest the petitions challenging the Article.
