Fresh rain lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh even as the state continued to reel under the impact of torrential rain and flood in many districts. 12 people lost their lives and 8 others were injured in rain related incidents in last 24 hours. Met department has forecast heavy rain in some parts of state.
According to reports that water level of Ghaghra River is rising continuously due to heavy rain in the region. 44 villages were marooned in the water of Ghaghra in Azamgarh district forcing hundreds of inhabitants to migrate to safer places.
The river breached another embankment at Chandpur of Harraiya tehsil in Basti District submerging 42 villages. Administration rescued more than 600 people from the affected area.
Gonda district is worst affected where more than 1 lakh people of 400 hamlets are affected due to breach in embankments at Karnailganj and tarabganj areas. State relief Commissioner Sanjay Kumar told media that administration is working on war footing to repair damaged embankments on Ghaghra, Rapti and Narayani rivers.
