The annual pilgrimage, which commenced from June 28 from both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal tracks simultaneously, concluded on August 26 on Shravan Purnima (Rakshbandan). Over 2.85 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country paid obeisance at the holy shrine though yatra was suspended from Jammu for security and other reasons for few days. Similarly yatra was also affected from base camps due to weather reasons.
However, there was no incident of violence or stone pelting on Amarnath yatra. Last year, seven pilgrims from Gujarat were killed and scores injured when militants attacked their bus in south Kashmir on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in July.
This year, the pilgrimage was conducted peacefully and no untoward incident was reported.
