Heavy air strikes target international airport in Yemen capital

In Yemen, heavy air strikes targetted the international airport in rebel-held capital Sanaa and an adjacent airbase today. The raids began at around midnight and lasted half an hour.

The Huthi rebels accused the Saudi-led coalition of conducting multiple overnight raids on the airport, which is closed except for occasional UN flights.

The strikes came hours after the Huthis said they had targeted Dubai airport with a drone attack, which was denied by the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Arabia and its allies have fought the Iran-backed Huthis since 2015 in an attempt to restore Yemen’s internationally recognised government to power and push back the rebels.
