Indian Boxers assured at least two Bronze medals in India’s Kitty at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia today. Boxers Vikas Krishan and Amit Panghal advanced to the Semifinal round in their respective weight categories. Vikas defeated his Chinese opponent in Men’s Middleweight Quarterfinals to enter the next round. Amit punched out North Korea’s Kim Jyeong 5-0 to enter the semifinals.
In the Women’s Heptathlon, Swapna Barman put India in the pole position with 872 points after the Javelin Throw round. Another Indian, Purnima Hembram finished 4th with 773 points. The final event of the Women’s Heptathlon will be the 800 metres race scheduled at 7:10 PM Indian Time.
India is currently on course for two medals in the event. In the Women’s 200-metres Final, Sprinter Dutee Chand will be seen in action. Manjit Singh and Jinson Johnson will look to qualify to the Men’s 1,500 metres Final. The Indian Men’s 4X400 metres Relay team will be in action in the Qualification. Rakesh Babu and Arpinder Singh will also be vying for top honours in Men’s Triple Jump Final.
In Women’s Hockey, India will take on China in the semi-finals. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the match from 6:25 PM onwards. India is currently 8th in the medals tally with 9 Gold, 19 Silver and 22 Bronze. China continues to lead the table, with Japan second and South Korea third.
