Srinagar, Aug 29: Panic gripped Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama when some firing shots were heard near the house of BJP leader Avtar Singh last night, official sources said.
Police said, ”We cannot say whether the assailants wanted to attack Mr Singh or just create panic in the area.”
People came out of their houses but there was nobody, the sources said, adding there was no report of any damage to property or injury to anyone in the firing.
It was not immediately clear whether the police guards posted at the residence of BJP leader also retaliated.
Police has registered a case and started investigation, they said.
Last week, a BJP local leader Shabir Ahmad Bhat was kidnapped on August 21 in Pulwama and later his bullet-riddled body was recovered next morning when people were celebrating Eid-ul-Azha in the valley. Three police personnel were also martyred on August 22 in south Kashmir.
