4th BIMSTEC Summit begins in Kathmandu

The 4th BIMSTEC Summit has begun in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The Heads of State and Government of Member States of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) including Prime Minister Narendra Modi are attending the two-day summit. Mr Modi will address the inaugural session this evening.

The theme of the 4th Summit is ‘Towards Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders of BIMSTEC jointly called on President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari in Kathmandu today. They also attended luncheon hosted by the President Bhandari.

Later, on the sideline of the summit, Mr Modi held a bilateral meeting with the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena.

In the evening, Mr. Modi will meet Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. He will also attend a banquet and cultural programme hosted by the Prime Minister of Nepal K.P.Sharma Oli in honour of the BIMSTEC leaders.
