Srinagar, Sep 4: Life on Tuesday crippled due to general strike in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a youth was killed when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators trying to disrupt Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Monday.
Life elsewhere in the south Kashmir was normal.
The authorities have already suspended mobile internet service of all Cellular companies in Pulwama, where district administration had ordered to suspend class work in Government Degree College (DGC) for boys and girls besides Higher Secondary School as a precautionary measure. However, all the educational institutions remained closed in the district.
The authorities have suspended train service between Badgam-Srinagar and Banihal in Jammu region passing through south Kashmir.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads. Work in government offices and banks were also affected. A few private vehicles could be seen on the roads.
However, traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was plying normally though additional security forces had been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Large number of security forces and state police personnel had been deployed at sensitive places in the district to prevent any law and order problem.
