Train services resume in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 5: Train services were resumed on Wednesday after remaining suspended on Tuesday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where a youth was killed, when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators trying to disrupt the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Pulwama on September 3.

However, all trains were running normally chug in north Kashmir as per schedule on Tuesday.

We have resumed all train runs in south Kashmir following a fresh advisory received from police, a railway officer told media.

He said therefore, trains will run on Badgam-Srinagar in central Kashmir to Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region. This route witness heavy rush as people travelling to Jammu prefer train service upto Banihal. We are acting on the advice of local administration and police to suspend or resume train service, he said adding safety and security of passengers besides railway staff and property is important.

Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is very cheap, safe and fast as compared to other mode of transport available.
