US Open: Serena Williams enters final

Serena Williams has entered the US Open women’s singles final.

In a semi-final match, she defeated  Latvian 19th seed Anastasija Sevastova  6-3,6-0.

Serena has now moved closer to winning her first Grand Slam title since giving birth.

The 36-year-old American will play against  Japan’s Naomi Osaka in tomorrow’s final. A victory for Serena will equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

In men’s singles, former champions Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will bid to set up a 53rd meeting in the final. Both Nadal and Djokovic will be playhing their semi-final matches against their rivals late tonight.

The pair have met more than any two men in the Open era and could meet for a fourth time in the final in New York.

In the semi-final matches tonight, the Spanish defending champion Nadal faces Argentine third seed, Juan Martin del Potro, as he aims for an 18th Grand Slam title.

Two-time winner Djokovic plays against Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Doubles final will be played at 9.30  tonight. The match timings are subject to change.
