The United States has recalled its envoys to three Latin American countries that recently switched diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China. The countries are Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Panama.
The move comes after Washington accused Beijing last month of engaging in a campaign of “political interference” by, what it said, poaching Taiwan’s allies in the western hemisphere.
Beijing sees self-ruling Taiwan as part of its territory to be brought back into its fold and has not ruled out using force to do so.
