SFs launch CASO in Shopian, clashes erupt

Srinagar, Sep 9: Security forces launched a Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian, where forces burst teargas shells to disperse the stone pelting demonstrations on Sunday.

Official sources said following specific information about presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at villages Tekkipora and Ronipora in Shopian on Sunday. The forces sealed all exit points and launched search operation in the area, they said.

However, people immediately hit the streets and started pelting stones on security forces to disrupt the operation. Security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were pelting stone.

Clashes and search operation were still going on when the reports last came in.
