Bandipora shuts on fourth straight day to mourn militant killings

Srinagar : A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Bandipora town for the fourth consecutive day on Monday to mourn the killings of five militants by government forces during a gunfight.

All the shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads.

Contingents of police and CRPF troopers are deployed at sensitive locations in the district to thwart any “element of violence”, an official said.

Notably, five militants were killed in an encounter in Shukbabun area of Sumlar village during a gunfight that began on Thursday afternoon after Army’s 14 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF cordoned off the area and ended up with the killing of five militants on Friday late evening.
