The Assam government has launched Wage Compensation scheme for Pregnant Women in tea gardens of the state.
Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal formally launched the scheme in Guwahati in presence of Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.
Under the scheme, an amount of Rs. 12,000 is to be given to the pregnant woman so that she could take care of herself and her unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of her family.
Over 60,000 women are likely to be benefited. The compensation of wages to pregnant women would be given in 4 instalments. The scheme is likely to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in the tea growing areas.
