JAMMU SURVIVES DEMOCRACY; KASHMIR FAILS.

JAMMU – 63.83 % ; KASHMIR – 8.3,

Election commission in its press conference held in at 5.30 pm at Jammu gave a detailed data analysis of the votes casted in today’s concluded Urban Local Bodies election, Phase 1. As per the report The total number of wards which where voting was held is 153. One candidate from Arnia ward got elected unopposed which puts the total figure of wards at 154. As per the reports of EC spokesperson,

Jammu Municipal Corporation had a total number of 447 candidates.

BJP – 75, INC – 74, Independent – 274, NCP – 1, NPP – 23

Candidates in fray in Arnia – 55, Akhnoor – 48, Bishana – 59, Gouhmanasa – 21, Jourian – 20, Khour – 32, R S Pura – 59

Total percentage of polling in wards under

Jammu Municipal Corporation –  61.9, Bishna – 85.15, Arnia – 79, R S Pura – 80.54, Gouhmanasa – 86%,  Akhnoor – 81%, Khour – 82, Jourian – 89%

In the first phase of polling 1 Municipal Corporation (JMC) and 7 Municipal Committees went to elect their bodies. The overall voting Percentage of Jammu was 63.83 % and the elections to all these wards went off in a peacefull and hassle free manner. The spokesperson also highlighted that this was for the first time EVMs were used to cast votes in Urban Local Bodies Elections.

As per details received from Kashmir Region, voting was held in 57 wards including 3 wards from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC)

Anantnag – 4, Budgam – 1, Bandipora – 16, Baramulla – 15, Kupwara – 18, Srinagar – 3.

Total percentage of polling in wards under

Anantnag – 7.3, Budgam – 17, Bandipora – 3.4, Baramulla – 5.1, Kupwara – 32, Srinagar – 6.2.

In the first phase of polling 1 Municipal Corporation (SMC) partly and 5 Municipal Committees went to elect their bodies. The overall voting Percentage of Kashmir Valley was abysmally low at 8.3 % The spokesperson also highlighted that this was for the first time EVMs were used to cast votes in Urban Local Bodies Elections.  Baring an incident of stone pelting incident on BJP candidate Adil Ahmad Bhuru, the elections passed away without any major incident.

Poonch and Rajouri recorded a handsome percentage of voting with Poonch at 73.1 and Rajouri at 81 percent.

Kargil and Leh too recorded a handsome percentage of voting with Kargil at 78.2 and Leh at 55.2 percent.

The next phase of voting is scheduled on Wednesday, October 10.
