PHASE 2 ULB CONCLUDES. HEAVY TURNOUT IN JAMMU DIVISION. ABYSMALLY LOW IN KASHMIR

Urban Local Bodies polls Phase 2 concludes peacefully in entire State with Jammu division recording a very high percentage of voting.

The number of wards where polling was conducted in Kashmir Division stands at 166 and Jammu Division at 218 comprising a total of 384 wards for Phase 2 of ULB polls on Wednesday, 10th October.

Elections were held in 20 wards of Srinagar Municipal Corporation which recorded a total of 2.3% votes polled , and Municipal Committee of

Langate – 3.2%,

Anantnag – 1.1%

Bandipora – 35.6%

Sopore – 5.2%

The overall votes polled in Kashmir valley stood at 3.4% electing representatives from 1 Municipal Corporation (SMC), 1 Municipal Council, and 10 Municipal Committees in Kashmir Valley.

Similarly elections were held in 21 wards of Udhampur Municipal Council which recorded a total of 79.21 % votes and 21 wards of Kathua Municipal Council polled 79.42 % votes.

Also, Municipal Committee of

Kishtwar – 72.77%

Doda – 72.8%

Bhaderwah – 68.78%

Thatri – 72%

Ramban – 79.53%,

Reasi – 86.21%

Katra – 83%

Ramnagar – 85.40%

Chenani – 88.26 %

elected their representatives for respective Municipal committees. The overall votes polled in Jammu region 78.6%. With the entire state total at 31.3% in Phase 2 of ULB.

The total Number of electors for One Municipal Council (Anantnag) of Kashmir Division was 47923; similarly, the other two Municipal councils of State going for polls in Phase 2 of ULB election Udhampur and Kathua had 30229 and 34885 electors respectively.

Ten Municipal Committees going for polls from Kashmir Division had a total of 53076 electors and Eleven Municipal Committees from Jammu Division had a total of 44198 votes.

The Municipal Elections 2018 have been announced on 15th September 2018 with 79 Municipal Bodies going to polls in four phases with pol dates of 8th, 10th 13th and 16th of October 2018. To ensure free and fair polls, the model code of conduct has come into force w.e.f the date of announcement and all security agencies have been put on high alert.
