Special category status not in Terms of Reference of Finance Commission: NK Singh

The Finance Commission on a visit to Andhra Pradesh today said it can not look into the issue of grant of special category to the state as it does not form part of the its Terms of Reference.

The Chairman of 15th Finance Commission N K Singh, who along with other members held consultations with the state government on financial devolution. However, Mr Singh said, the issue of special stutus to Andhra Pradesh does not form ‘directly or indirectly or remotely’ part of the rather detailed Terms of Reference given to it.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appealed to the Commission to accord special category status to the state. The chief Minister also appealed to the Commission to consider continuation of Revenue deficit grants, disaster relief for crop failures and grants for development of Amaravati capital city and special assistance to backward districts and other infrastructure.
