The third phase of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Jammu and Kashmir took place on Saturday. A total of 365 candidates were in fray for the third phase which covered 96 wards.
According to Election Commission officials, ““Now, a total of 365 candidates are in fray for 96 wards in the state. Of these, 242 candidates are contesting from 56 wards of Jammu while 120 candidates are in fray for 40 wards in the Valley,”
A total of 411 candidates were originally to contest for 207 wards in the third phase however, candidates from 49 wards in Kashmir were elected unopposed while no nominations were filed for 62 wards in the militancy-riddled Valley, the official said.
As per details with Epilogue News Network, One Municipal Corporation ( Parts of Srinagar) – 25 wards ( 1.8%), Only 2740 votes polled out of 153091 electors.
One Municipal Council Sopore – 21 wards (No Nomination)
Eight Municipal Committees Hajin – 13 wards, ,
Uri – 13 wards (75.3%)
Tral – 13 wards, (Won Uncontested – 4, No Nomination – 9)
Avantipora – 13 wards (Won Uncontested – 1, No Nomination – 12)
Mattan – 13 wards (Voting 7 wards – 4%, Won Uncontested – 4, No Nomination – 2,)
Pahalgam – 13 Wards (No Nomination)
Ashmuqam – 13 wards (No Nomination)
Seer Hamdan – 13 wards (Won Uncontested – 1, No Nomination – 12)
Similarly, four Municipal Committees in Jammu elected their representatives
Samba – 17 wards (Voting – 78.77%)
Vijaypur – 13 wards (Voting – 85.39%)
Ramgarh – 13 wards (Voting – 82.77%)
Bari Brahmana – 13 wards (Voting – 85.73%).
Voters polled in Samba District four municipal committees were 25953 out of a total electoral count of 31718. The voting percentage stood at a whopping 81.82%.
This ends the Third Phase of ULB Polls in J&K with Fourth Phase slated on 16 October (Tuesday) in the remaining 20 Wards of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Pattan, Ganderbal, Pampore, Khrew, Pulwama, Shopian, Dooru Verinag.
