Srinagar : Thousands of people including women on Thursday morning attended the funeral prayers of slain Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TUM) Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, a resident of Padgampora area of Awantipora town of south Kashmir.
An eyewitness said that two rounds of funeral prayers were held for the slain militant in his native village. Thousands of people participated in the prayers, he said.
Scores of men and women wept bitterly and Pro-freedom slogans were raised as the body was being carried towards its final resting place.
Reports said that some armed militants appeared at the funeral of slain militant and offered a gun salute to his associate and raised pro-freedom, pro-Islam and pro-Pakistan slogans.
Bhat was killed in a predawn gunfight at Dougam Kakapora area of the Pulwama district. Showkat had joined Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TUM) militant outfit a few days ago. He was a student of B-pharmacy at Kashmir University.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir on joint resistance leadership call against the killing of militants’ and civilian.
