Saina Nehwal enters Denmark Open Badminton finals

In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal entered the women’s singles final of Denmark Open. Saina will face top-seeded Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in the summit clash tomorrow.

At Odense today, Saina defeated Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia 21-11, 21-12 in the semi-final. The match lasted for 30 minutes. Saina won the first game in 13 minutes while she took 17 minutes to close the second game. Saina beat Japanese Nozomi Okuhara 17-21, 21-16, 21-12 in the quarterfinal match last night.

Earlier, in another semifinal this evening, defending champion Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out of the tournament after losing 16-21, 12-21 in 44 minutes to world number one Kento Momota of Japan. Srikanth seeded seventh, edged past compatriot Sameer Verma 22-20, 19-21, 23-21 in the quarter-final.

In the Women’s Doubles, the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy bowed out after losing in the quarter-final to the top seeded Japanese duo of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota, 14-21, 12-21.
