Teachings of Bhagwan Rishabhdev still relevant, says President Kovind

The teachings of Bhagwan Rishabhdev is very much relevant even today to have a congenial and cordial relation between various religions, community and customs, President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday said.

Delivering his inaugural address on the three-day Vishwa Shanti Ahimsa Sammelan at Mangi Tungi in Nashik district of Maharashtra, President Kovind said, the land of Maharashtra is the land of social harmony, spirituality and goodwill.

He said, the spiritual and political leaders like Sant Tukaram, Sant Namdeo, Guru Ramdas, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr. BR Ambedkar gave the message of social harmony and love for the country.

The President further said, the teachings of Jainism which focus on Ahimsa at its core are relevant at a time when the violence is taking place in the name of religion.

Mr Kovind said, non-violence has been accorded the highest place by all the religions. He said, India has been a strong proponent of non-violence and peace.

Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis were also present at the event.
