EC reviews law and order situation, election arrangements in poll-bound Telangana

The high-level team of Election Commission of India headed by Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat on Tuesday reviewed the law and order situation and poll preparedness at districts level in Telangana.

The 11-member team of the ECI, which is on a three-day visit to Hyderabad, held the day-long review of preparedness with the District Electoral officers and Superintendents.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEC asked the district authorities to be professional and objective in conducting free and fair poll in Telangana.

Expressing satisfaction over the improvement in the poll preparedness, Mr Rawat asked them to fill the gaps in next few weeks.

The Commission asked the district authorities to be fair, absolutely neutral and act with responsibility with utmost consciousness as the eyes and ears of the ECI in ensuring free and fair election in the state.

The district authorities have been asked to follow the procedure in cleansing the electoral rolls and bring all cases of cash seizures to a logical conclusion.

Earlier, the commission reviewed with the DEOs and SPs over district election plans in a marathon interaction.

The Commission will meet the authorities in Income tax, excise, transport, bankers coordinators and senior state government officials tomorrow.
