Policy adopted by central government destructive; demands judicial probe in Kulgam incident: M Y Tarigami

Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami on Thursday while interacting with media personnel at his Gupkar residence said, “There has to be an end to the atrocities on people of Kashmir and the people have a ‘right to live’, adding that it is the responsibility of government and law enforcing agencies.”

He appealed to the governor of state that at least a judicial enquiry must be initiated in Kulgam incident which led to the death of young men must saying, “Let us know the facts behind this incident, let us know if the tragedy could have been averted.”

Raising suspicion on the manner in which the blast took place, Tarigami said that it has been debated in assembly and there are Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place. It is mandatory for the security forces to sanitize the area before leaving the spot.

Tarigami stressed the importance of knowing why youth in Kashmir are dying saying, “We need to know why youth die? Who is answerable?” He further said, “Though the outcome of such probes is already know to the people of Kashmir, yet if the government has nothing to hide, it should come clean with a fair probe. Those responsible should be fixed and the matter dealt within the frame work of established law.”

In a direct attack on Central Government, Tarigami said, “CPM believes the policy adopted by central government is destructive in Kashmir and the saga of destruction seems to be unstoppable even now.”

M Y Tarigami is a noted and seasoned political leader from Kashmir who has consecutively won assembly elections four times since 1996 and analysts consider him a very serious player in Kashmir Politics. Demanding a judicial probe, he has put the ball in the court of governor to decided over the matter of judicial probe.
