The benchmark indices BSE and NSE witnessed their best Muhurat trade session gains in 10 years, settling over 0.5 per cent higher in the Muhurat session of Samvat 2075.
The market gain led by a rise in automobile stocks and information technology stocks.
The S &P BSE Sensex ended at 35,238 gaining 246 points and the Nifty 50 index rose 68 points to settle at 10,598 levels.
The market breadth was positive as 1,925 shares advanced, against a decline of 439 shares, while 130 shares were unchanged.
Last year, Equity benchmarks closed the first day of Samvat 2074 on a weak note, dragged by banks stocks.
