The death toll due to the recent cyclone in Tamil Nadu has gone up to 33, as informed by the state Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy. In a press meet in Salem today, he said, the victims include 11 women and two children. For the families of those who died due to the cyclone, the assistance of ten lakh rupees each has been announced.
Over ten thousand staff of the state discom are replacing about thirty thousand damaged electric poles and restoring more than a hundred sub-stations in the cyclone-ravaged coastal districts. The state administration has said, most of the key roads are cleared of fallen trees and broken branches to restore transportation.
Meanwhile, many interior parts of the state received good amount of rainfall with Sivaganga receiving a maximum of 17-centimetre rain in the last 24 hours.
