The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu today informed that government will release the e-commerce policy in the near future. He was addressing an award function in Mumbai this morning.
In an interactive session, he said that the policy which was initially drafted by industry stakeholders is currently waiting for clearance from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
The Union Minister added that although the government is willing to listen to the World Trade Organization, the policy will be made by the Indian government. He had also informed that the government is creating ‘sub-national’ Ease of Doing Business parameters which will be measured at the district level because that is where the local industries are flourishing.
Talking about the Make in India initiative, the minister said that the aspiration of the initiative was that the country’s share of industry should be 25 percent, and a strategy is prepared to make sure it becomes 20 percent by the time India becomes a $5 trillion economy.
