At least three people have been killed and several injured in a grenade blast at Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar’s Rajasansi village. According to eyewitnesses, the senior leader of the Nirankari sect, who was addressing the congregation, has received injuries and has been taken to hospital.
According to eyewitnesses two men on a motorcycle with covered faces made their way through into Nirankari Bhawan and threw a grenade right amidst the place where a religious ceremony was on at the time. These motorcycle borne youth made an exit after hurling the grenade.
Every Sunday, thousands of devotees gather at the hall for prayers and kirtan. About 500 people were inside the hall when the attack took place. The Nirankari Bhawan has been sealed and police are investigating into the matter.
Punjab was on alert following an input claiming that a group of six to seven JeM terrorists were reportedly in the state, possibly in Ferozepur area. The state was put on alert after four persons snatched a SUV from its driver at gunpoint near Madhopur couple of days back.
