Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday said that he dissolved state legislative assembly in view of horse trading and threats to MLA’s.
“When I came to state, I had told that I won’t allow to make underhand and defection government in the state, I wanted to have an elected government in the state and I have no objection,” Governor Malik said during a presser in Jammu today.
He said, from last fifteen to twenty days he had reports about the horse-trading in the state. MLAs were being threatened and there were a lot of under hand works going on. He said, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti called him a week ago, and said, her MLAs are being threatened by NIA, which led them to leave the party.
He said, other political parties said that the party leaders were lured by the money, so horse trading was started twenty days ago.
So, “now whosoever I would have given the chance, there would have been horse-trading at a large scale, which ultimately would have finished the political system of the state, the way it’s happening in the other states, and I would not have afford that at any cost,” he said.
He said, as municipality polls are over and Panchayat polls are going on in the state, with the grace of God, no untoward incident has happened in the state. “We are sort of taking the democracy, at a large scale and people are also taking part in that development of the state,” he said, adding that “there were no causality, no violence was reported, less people have joined the militant ranks and almost fifty militants were killed.”
If there would have been a grand alliance, then it would have been an opportunist government and there would have been fights from third day itself. It’s not my interest its state’s interest, and i acted for the interest of the state. He said it was in his wisdom he has not supported any party.
Among the parties nobody approached me, everybody was saying they have majority, nobody gave me a list or evidence as they had more than five months of time. They had five months, how come they didn’t form a govt in five months if they had unity, I didn’t support anybody I just did what I felt was good for the state, under the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
