Redwani Gunfight: Militant, army man killed, 2 CRPF men injured

Srinagar : A militant and an army soldier were killed in a gunfight at Redwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

The gunfight broke out in the wee hours after army’s 1 Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in Redwani bala in Kulgam.

A senior police official confirmed the killing of a militant and an army soldier.

The identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained, he said.

“The operation was launched following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area,” he said.

When reports last came in the intermittent firing was going on.

Meanwhile, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men were injured after unknown men hurled grenade on CRPF personnel deployed on outer cordon. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The two injured CRPF personnel have been identified as sub-inspector Amit Kumar and Constable Avnish.
