Delhi Police charges Kanhaiya Kumar, others in JNU sedition case

The Delhi Police today filed its charge sheet against former  Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a sedition case lodged in 2016.

The police also charged former students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya among others for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans during an event organised on JNU campus on 9th of February, 2016 to commemorate the hanging of Parliament-attack mastermind Afzal Guru.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Anand has put up the charge sheet for consideration before a court tomorrow. The police had alleged that Kanhaiya Kumar had incited the mob to shout anti-India slogans.

A case was registered on 11th of February, 2016 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons at Vasant Kunj (North) police station following complaints by BJP MP Mahesh Girri and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
