No increase in Monthly cash assistance to eligible KPs; Kashmir based News portal creates a goof up.

Social media is a buzz with a news report claiming that Central government has decided to increase the monthly cash assistance of eligible displaced Kashmiri Pandits. The news appeared in a Kashmir based online news portal Kashmir life https://kashmirlife.net/centre-to-increase-cash-assistance-to-kashmiri-pandits-213640/   tonight claiming that the Home Minister Amit Shah today made a statement in parliament to increase the monthly cash assistance to the community.

{Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that steps have been taken by the Government of India (GoI) for the empowerment of Kashmiri Pandits by increasing cash assistance to them.

“We have empowered governance in Ladakh and steps have been taken for the empowerment of Kashmiri Pandits by increasing cash assistance for them,” News18quoted Amit Shah as saying in Lok Sabha Speech. }

However there is no validation to the statement emanating from this online portal from Kashmir region. The portal claims to have taken this news brief based on News 18 report, however upon further probing to the live excerpts from News 18 web portal it appears that the Kashmir based news portal has made a terrible goof-up.

After going through the live updates of News 18, which refers to a statement made by HM Amit Shah who said, “the BJP government has empowered the governance in Ladakh and steps have been taken for the resettlement of the Kashmiri Pandits, He also informed that compensation for those affected by cross-border firing has been increased.

The statement of Amit Shah as is evident from the live updates of News 18 reflects upon resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits and makes no mention to increase the monthly cash assistance to eligible families.

However in the next statement which mentions “compensation for those affected by cross-border firing has been increased.” the valley based news portal seems to have acted in haste without applying a serious thought about the difference in two statements.

Apart from corroborating the news from News 18 we sought a brief from our sources who refuted of any such statement being made by Home Minister.
