Government of Jammu and Kashmir has revoked the Public Safety Act detention order of National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah with immediate effect.
The order to this effect was issued by principal secretary to Government Shaleen Kabra IAS today 13 March 2020 vide order number Home/PB-V/702 of 2020. The said order says:
“In exercise to the powers conferred under section 19 (1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978, the government hereby revokes the detention order bearing no: DMS/PSA/120/2019 dated 15-09-2019 issued by District Magistrate, Srignagar extended for a period of 03 minths vide government order no: Home/PB-V/340 of 2019, dated 13-12-2019 and then extended for a further period of 03 months vide govt order no: Home/PB-V/668 of 2020 dated 11-03-2020 of Dr Farooq Abdullah S/o Late Sheikh Mohamad Abdullah R/o Gupkar Road Srinagar.”
This act of the government seems to be in tune with the political process seemingly gaining ground after historic 5 August decision neutralizing Article 370, abrogating 35 A and Reorganizing the erstwhile state of J&K.
Only time will reveal if the detention revocation is conditional or any condition has been attached with this revocation. One thing which can be said with fair degree of analysis at this moment is the approach of Central government towards initiating political process in state.
With the launch of J&K Apni Party , Altaf Bukhari has already sounded the bugle of a political process in state and with NC patron out of detention the political process is surely going to gain more ground.
