While the entire world is battling the gigantic spread of COVID 19 pandemic which has already claimed thousands of lives across the globe we have hundreds and thousands of health care workers battling round the clock, treating the affected at the cost of their lives. Such fighters often go unrecognized and their contribution unclaimed.
Precisely this is the reason why the Honorable Prime Minister of India Narender Modi at the onset of this pandemic in country lauded the role of such unsung warriors making sure the nation remembers them for times to come with honor and dignity.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has its own set of warriors who are at the front line of the COVID-19 outbreak response and as such are exposed to hazards that put them at risk of infection. Hazards include pathogen exposure, long working hours, psychological distress, fatigue, occupational burnout, stigma, and physical and psychological violence.
Though the entire administration is geared up to fight this pandemic at all levels and we wish to offer a special mention to one front line warrior who is standing in direct line of fire facing the wrath of this vicious and deadly virus called COVID 19.
The gentleman warrior named Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial serving as program manager in state program management unit (SPMU) of National Rural Health Mission, Imagine when the whole world including the immediate family members are desolating their own kith and kin suffering from this dreaded disease, Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial has been entrusted with the profile of locating such patients.
This brave man has been entrusted with Contact tracing of the positive cases of this pandemic which is the most arduous and risk enabling activity in this entire operation. We must also know that this profiling is key to stop the spread of the COVID 19. His profile includes taking all the high risk contacts to quarantine facility for isolation and testing. His role also includes cluster surveillance of entire area from where the positive case are located. This means he and his health team goes door to door for survey making sure no human is suffering from flue like symptoms.
The Personal Protective Gear (PPE) used by our health workers like this gentleman are not fool proof either considering this team has to visit the lanes and by lanes locating cases door to door magnifying the scope of an inadvertent miss. This naturally means the chances of catching infection are many more times higher than others.
Regardless of risk factors involved Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial and his team are religiously trying to contain the spread of this pandemic in Jammu.
We salute all such warriors and offer our prayers for their safe and healthy life. Let us all remember if we are safe today, it is predominately attributed to such warriors working round the clock . Let us all remember such men in our prayers each day of our lives today and times to come.
