I&B Secy Apurva Chandra says, entertainment industry witness huge growth and can reach 100 billion dollars mark soon

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra has expressed confidence that entertainment industry will see very good days in future. Virtually addressing CII Big Picture Summit today, Mr Chandra said, during the lockdown people consumed more content than in a normal year and they were hooked to the content. He said, in the last one and half year quality has improved. The Secretary said, people are finding opportunities in the new scenario. He said, the theatres are now open and people are going to cinemas.

Mr Chandra said, the Government would like to have a light touch regulation and act more as a facilitator. He added that entertainment industry has witnessed a huge growth in the last 10 to 20 years and it can reach 100 billion dollars mark soon.

Speaking at the summit, Prasar Bharati  Chief Executive Officer Shashi Sekhar Vempati said that the public broadcaster on its end is taking a lot of efforts on different fronts to innovate and be a part of the transformation in the media and entertainment sector. He said, during the last three to four years, there has been a change in Prasar Bharati through digitalisation. Mr Vempati said, every Doordarshan channel and every All India Radio station now has digital presence spanning multiple platforms. He said, now through newsonair mobile app people anywhere in the world are able to listen to their hometown’s radio station and it is becoming very popular worldwide. The CEO said, digital has been an integral part of Prasar Bharati’s activities. He said, the public broadcaster is making radio content digitally enrich.
